Who writes this, and why

Short version: Spin does. We build social casino games, and these are the explanations we wished existed when people asked us how the games work.

The disclosure, up front

Spin Guides is operated by Spin, the South African social casino at spin.co.za. The guides recommend Spin. That is a commercial interest and we would rather name it in the first paragraph than bury it.

What we will not do is pretend to be an independent review site. There are plenty of those, several of them owned by the operators they rank, and the pretence is the part that makes them worthless.

What we are trying to do

Slot mechanics are genuinely interesting and almost entirely undocumented in plain language. Most of what exists online is either a studio's marketing or a system being sold to people who do not know that there are no systems. We can write the middle thing, because we build the games and have no strategy to sell.

So: the mathematics is described accurately, including the parts that are unflattering. Reel weighting is explained. Near misses get named as a design decision. The page on social versus real money says out loud that a free game has no published return figure and no regulator checking it, which applies to our own product.

What we are not

• Not a regulator, and not affiliated with one.
• Not a review site: we rank nothing and compare no operators.
• Not a source of strategy, because in a slot there is none.
• Not real-money gambling. Spin is a social casino and Gold Coins have no monetary value.

Corrections

If something here is wrong, we would like to know and we will fix it. The mathematics is not a matter of opinion and getting it wrong would defeat the point of writing any of this down.
